Puttin' It All In A Song

Puttin' It All In A Song is a 1991 Christian CD by Butler, Pennsylvania's Jan Howard. Jan was living in Wilmington, North Carolina at the time this was recorded and had become a Christian about 7 years earlier. After spending 7 years cantoring at St. Mary Catholic Church, she was inspired to write and record the music for the CD. She spent months putting together a home recording studio and though she was working a full time job with a 2 hour per day commute, was raising her 5 year old daughter and at 34, had no experience at recording whatsoever, was able to complete the project over a 9 month period. From the time she started recording to the time she had a finished CD in her hands took just about 13 months

Jan was helped by then husband Nick Howard, who co-produced the CD with her. He helped tremendously in picking out equipment and with the all the elements of engineering- setting of levels, moderating the mix and accepting takes. But Jan herself was involved in every aspect of the recording- from laying out all the vocals on the CD, playing almost all the instruments through a computer program, even taking the cover photograph. Nick programmed the guitar on I Am So Happy but virtually everything else was done by Jan.

Jan wrote all the music and lyrics with a little help from Tim Connelly with the lyrics on two of the songs. The music showcases the eclectic style of her musical tastes. There are songs that are pure praise and worship, story songs, songs that are uptempo with plenty of kick and songs that are slow and beautiful. There is an 8 minute instrumental and...well, it covers the entire Christian experience incredibly well. As someone who was there during the time she recorded it and has been a friend for the 27 years since- i am delighted- with her permission- to make the entire CD available here on our website.
